Scholarships to Study Abroad
AFS-USA is pleased to offer three FULL scholarship programs for students to participate in AFS exchange programs abroad. All three scholarships are funded by the U.S. Dept. of State.
National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) is a merit-based scholarship for eligible school students and recent high school graduates to learn less commonly taught languages in overseas programs. NSLI-Y immerses participants in the cultural life of the host country. Summer and academic year programs are available for Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian and Turkish. Application deadline: October 31, 2014
Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad is an innovative high school student exchange program between Americans and people from countries of significant Muslim populations. Academic year programs in countries that may include: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mali, Morocco, Oman, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia and Turkey. Application deadline: January 7, 2015
Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) is an academic year program for high school and gap-year students to study abroad in Germany. Congress-Bundestag scholars serve as ‘youth ambassadors’ of the United States, sharing their life and cultural with German hosts and local government officials, and gaining new perspectives on global affairs. We are also available to come to your school for presentations about the benefits of an intercultural exchange, general scholarship opportunities, and opportunities to study abroad or host a student through AFS.
