Central CT State University - Department of Modern Languages - Assistant Professor of Spanish
Emergency Appointment. One year. Assistant Professor. PhD in Spanish required; ABD (completion within one year) will be considered. Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish is required. Specialization open. Focus on Latin American Culture and Literature is preferred. Candidates are expected to teach Spanish at different levels including Latin American Culture and Literature. The following are also considered a plus: a) record of research applicable to teaching Spanish language, literature and/or culture; and b) experience with study-abroad programs and/or International Studies. The regular teaching assignment is four three-unit courses per semester.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Provides effective Spanish instruction to high school students. Assists pupils in need of help, prepares lessons, tests, and evaluations. Actively participates in committee work (departmental, curriculum, etc.), staff meetings, and conferences with pupils, parents, colleagues, administration and parents.
Proper Connecticut teaching certification as well as Federal NCLB requirements required. Academic preparation with emphasis on high school education; knowledge of best practices across the curriculum and ability to modify the curriculum to meet the needs of all learners. Must be a flexible collaborator with an understanding of children's developmental stages.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a temporary long-term substitute assignment beginning in early December and coninuting through the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year. Pro-rated salary in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the Berlin Board of Education and the Berlin Education Association, BA 2, $45,701 to Ph.D Max, $93,380.
