Julie Speno founded the elementary Spanish program in 1998 in her district, where she teaches K-4th grade. Over the course of her 26 year teaching career, she has taught English as a World Language, Russian and Spanish to children and adults from ages 4 to 84, in a variety of settings, including immersion programs. She is a strong advocate for early language learning opportunities for kids, serves as the NNELL Maine Rep as well as the WLES Rep for FLAME, and is the 2021 Teacher of the Year for Maine. She is also a moderator for the #earlylang chat team, and an active presenter in her state of Maine, across the US, and online, and was the 2018 Keynote Speaker for the NNELL Summer Institute.
